Everton opinion: Why Everton should make a move for Patrick Schick

According to Italian news outlet Tuttomercatoweb, Everton have entered the race for AS Roma star Patrik Schick. The Toffees are looking for more attack minded players next summer and have already been linked with moves for Jean-Kevin Augustin (Daily Mail), David Neres (ESPN) and now Schick.

It shows the road that the Toffees want to take, and given the fact that they appointed Marco Silva, that is no surprise. An attack minded manager, Silva sets his team up to press high and push the opponents to their limits before attacking.

Everton this season have shown tactical stability at times, something which was rarely there under either Sam Allardyce or even Ronald Koeman.

Everton sit just one point off seventh place Leicester City, with just five games to go for them. Things could change and if they do end up in the final Europa League spot, then the club needs reinforcements.

Their team is far from perfect and along with that, their front-line has struggled to score regularly. While Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been a work-horse for the club, the young English striker has only managed to net six goals, with Cenk Tosun adding two more.

This has increased the burden on both Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson but both have responded by contributing to a combined total of 30 goals so far.

The 23-year-old Schick has struggled since his move to Roma, but he is still a very capable centre-forward. Tall, technically great, agile and very strong on the ball, the young striker needs a fresh start.

That’s something that Everton can provide him with. They shouldn’t define him by his time at AS Roma. Simply because the 23-year-old has been played out of position, far too often, for him to really make an impact.

In fact, in the lone season that he did play consistently as a centre-forward for Sampdoria, Schick scored 11 goals. It shows how well he can led the line when needed and help others get into the game.

As mentioned, Schick is agile enough to be used as a focal point on the counter-attack but also strong enough to be used as a focal point in a more possession-based style of play.

It emphasises exactly why he would be a great move for Everton, despite a €30million price tag (Tuttomercatoweb) attached to his head.

Conclusion

Adding Patrik Schick will help the Toffees move on from a certain Manchester United striker, something that they have yet to do. The 23-year-old Czech Republic star has it in him to be a great player in England, but only if Everton somehow manage to finalize the deal.
