Everton signing this world-class Belgian star would be a huge statement of intent from Marco Silva – agreed?

Everton opinion: Should the Toffees make a move for Thomas Meunier?

Everton’s season showed just where they need reinforcements in the summer window if they stand a chance at thriving in the Premier League next season.

Their slew of inconsistent results hurt the club ultimately, with them finishing behind Wolverhampton Wanderers for the final Europa League spot.

Qualification would not only have increased their transfer budget but it would’ve convinced them that appointing Marco Silva was in the best interests of the club.

The Portuguese tactician was appointed after being linked to the Toffees all year. After Ronald Koeman was sacked by Everton, the club appointed Sam Allardyce to save them from relegation, which looked like a genuine possibility when Big Sam arrived.

The Toffees were in transition at the start of this season, playing an attacking brand of football as Silva had promised. He hasn’t lived up to that promise or at least a consistent version of that promise, with glimpses of quality shining every now and then but nothing sustainable.

One of the main reasons, aside from the lack of a consistent goalscoring striker was Seamus Coleman’s struggles at right-back. The Irishman was once a mainstay at the club but a double leg break a few years ago changed that.

He lost the speed and agility that made him so potent as a right-back and it’s something that Everton have lacked this season. The arrival of Lucas Digne on the left-hand side changed things and this summer the Toffees have to make a similar move.

Few players in the world would suit them better than Thomas Meunier. The Belgian has been linked time after time with a move to Goodison Park, but nothing has materialized despite links in January.

Now, Football.London has reported that the Toffees are amongst the front-runners for the Belgian international and that’s a race they have to win.

A very talented right-back or right wing-back, Meunier has spent most of his season on the bench. That’s because PSG boss Thomas Tuchel prefers Dani Alves, which is a bit of a shock.

Thomas Meunier is miles ahead of anything that Alves is at the moment and is arguably one of the best in his position. He needs game-time and Everton can offer him exactly that.

Conclusion

Thomas Meunier is arguably the best replacement that Everton will get for Seamus Coleman and given the 27-year-old’s athleticism, it makes him perfect for the Premier League. His attacking returns are undeniable and it would add another dimension to their style of play.
