According to Daily Post, Everton are eyeing a move for Ajax starlet Donny Van de Beek, with the midfielder revealing a desire to play in England. That has seen Arsenal, Manchester United and even Tottenham improve their interest, with all three sides linked earlier.
However, now the Toffees have also entered the race, as Everton look to upgrade their side. By bringing in Richarlison, Lucas Digne, Yerry Mina and Marco Silva himself last summer, Everton proved their desire and will to do so much more.
The Toffees have struggled in recent seasons, finishing 8th, 7th, 11 and 11th. Their last top 5 finish came during the 2013/14 league season, where the club finished 5. Everton had a sensational run that year, finishing above the likes of Tottenham and Manchester United.
That gave them guaranteed European football but since then their downfall has been incredible. For a club like the Toffees, they should have never even come close to a bottom half place.
They’ve shown a marked improvement in performances and a change in quality, adapting with the times. It’s why a move for Donny Van de Beek would make perfect sense and if they can get the Ajax star then it’s a move they have to make.
The 22-year-old had a fantastic season, finishing with 30 goal contributions in just 57 games. That means that no Everton player single-handedly managed to create and score more goals, with both Gylfi Sigurdsson and Richarlison combining to contribute to 37 goals.
However, that was the extent of things, with only one other player hitting double figures in goal contributions but it’s not why they need Donny Van de Beek. Instead, with James McCarthy, Tom Davies and even Morgan Schneiderlin struggling to make an impact, the Toffees need a new midfielder.
That’s where Donny Van de Beek enters the fray and the 22-year-old would be a sensational addition to their midfield line. Capable of playing as either a number 6 or a number 8, the Dutchman is very very good.
He does struggle defensively but Everton have other players who can defend and instead allow Van de Beek to flourish offensively.
It’s where the 22-year-old does his best work, averaging 1.6 shots per game, 1.3 key passes, and a passing accuracy of just under 80%. It’s a rather impressive stats chart and it shows just where the young midfielder will flourish for the club.

If Everton even have a sliver of a chance to get someone like Donny Van de Beek in, then that is a chance that the club have to take. They need the 22-year-old on their team sheet and with time, he will be able to make an immense difference to their style of play.
