Everton signing this red-hot Englishman in the summer would take their attack to the next level

Everton opinion: Marco Silva wants Callum Wilson – a good move?

The Daily Mail has reported that Everton have entered the race for Bournemouth star Callum Wilson as the Toffees look for a striker. Having just made his return from injury, the 27-year-old has been in decent form, producing two goals in his last three games.

The fact that Wilson has 11 goals to his name in the Premier League is one of the reasons why Everton are after him. Tall, powerful and agile, Wilson’s comeback story is incredible.

The former Coventry striker endured two potential career-ending injuries and recovered from it. After that, he rightfully earned a move to Bournemouth and has been their main man since his 2014 move.

This includes a 21-goal season in the Championship, which played a big part in the Cherries getting promoted.

Since then, Wilson has struggled to consistently find the net but has changed this season. Not only has he become a consistent scorer, but Wilson has changed into a creator for the club.

While he has scored 11 goals, the 27-year-old has also created 7 and has averaged 1.1 key passes per game. That has seen Ryan Fraser, David Brooks and Joshua King flourish alongside him, with the trio scoring 23 goals between them.

This includes six apiece for both Fraser and Brooks, with King scoring the remaining. It further shows why Everton should make a move, especially if the club wants the likes of Richarlison, Bernard and Gylfi Sigurdsson to flourish.

While both the Iceland international and the Brazilian have done well, combining for 24 goals, Bernard only recently scored his first Premier League goal.

Barring that, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has six to his name and Cenk Tosun has two to his name, which is less than what Wilson has.

That has been Everton’s biggest and only downfall this season, with Marco Silva finally getting his team selection right. The Toffees are on a decent run, with just one loss in their last five games.

This has pushed them into contention for the final Europa League spot, as they sit only one point behind seventh-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Conclusion

Everton need a bonafide striker and they needed one in January. While Dominic Calvert-Lewin has done relatively well over the last few months, the 22-year-old cannot be their only option.

Adding someone like Callum Wilson, a striker in his prime, would be the perfect man to partner Calvert-Lewin but also help others to flourish.
