Everton signing this 38-goal Brazilian star would be a smashing piece of business by Marco Silva – opinion

Why Willian Jose would be a smashing signing for Everton

Back in May 2018, the Liverpool Echo had claimed that Everton were interested in signing Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose, but a move failed to materialise then.

The Brazilian front-man, 27, has won plenty admirers from within La Liga and across Europe following his move to the Anoeta from Real Zaragoza back in 2016, with 38 goals in 91 league games. He helped Real Sociedad finish ninth in the La Liga table last season with 11 goals and five assists in 31 games.

With Willian Jose establishing himself one of the top strikers in the La Liga, the time is ripe for Everton to reignite their interest in their former target.

The Toffees recently confirmed the signing of teenage sensation Moise Kean from Juventus. Kean has signed a five-year Goodison deal to become Marco Silva’s fifth recruit of the summer.

The Italy international striker joins midfielders Andre Gomes, Fabian Delph and Jean-Philippe Gbamin and goalkeeper Jonas Lossl in the arrivals salon. Despite signing the highly-rated Kean, Silva must sign another prolific centre-forward to solve his goalscoring woes.

Cenk Tosun has struggled to adapt to the Premier League following his move from Besiktas last year and while Dominic Calvert-Levin did promise in patches, signing another striker would do no harm to the Merseyside outfit.

If Everton are to make genuine strides under Silva, the striker department will be one area where they absolutely must improve upon. And Willian Jose would be a top fit at Goodison Park.

Willian’s impressive movement, combined with his clinical finishing would certainly help add a level of potency to Everton’s attacking play. He is technically brilliant, with the ability to receive the ball in tight spaces and keep hold of it in crowded areas. The 27-year-old can play anywhere along the front-line and likes making selfless runs into the channels.

The Brazilian would give Silva an entirely different option in the final third, whilst forming a rollicking attack with the likes of Richarlison, Bernard and Gylfi Sigurdsson. Plus, Willian would be the perfect mentor for talented young strikers like Kean and Calvert-Lewin.

Verdict

Everton must find a solution to their goalscoring woes ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline and that means bringing in another striker following the addition of Moise Kean. If Silva could somehow manage to land Willian, the Toffees could have the firepower to qualify for Europe.
