Everton signing this 32-year-old world champion would make them a fearsome force in the midfield next season

Everton opinion: Why the Toffees should go all out to sign Blaise Matuidi?

According to Le Parisien (h/t France Football), Everton have made contact over the possibility of signing French midfielder Blaise Matuidi from Juventus this summer.

Matuidi, 32, was an important player for France as they won the World Cup last summer. He was a regular fixture of the starting XI for the French team under manager Didier Deschamps.

However, the Frenchman may struggle to retain his spot in the Juventus starting XI this season after the Serie A champions recruited two more quality midfielders in the form of Aaron Ramsey and Adrien Rabiot.

Blaise Matuidi

The 32-year-old midfielder has enjoyed quite an eventful decade of top-level football, having enjoyed rich success at both club and international levels. After enjoying six fruitful years with Paris Saint-Germain, he has spent the last two years with Juventus, dominating Italian football.

With the midfielder boasting a strong CV that includes 20 trophies at the club level and a World Cup with France, Everton signing Matuidi is a no-brainer.

The Toffees have signed Andre Gomes permanently from Barcelona this summer, while Fabian Delph has arrived at the Goodison Park from champions Manchester City. But the club could lose Idrissa Gueye this summer, with the Senegalese heavily linked with a move to PSG.

Hence, Marco Silva could be forced to sign a player to replace Gueye should he leave the club and Everton would be wise to go for Matuidi.

Matuidi is a powerhouse that is renowned for his strength and presence in the centre of the park, where he makes himself a pest for the opposition attackers.

He is known for his defensive ability but has previously played on the left-wing if injuries have required him to do so. The Frenchman is a serial winner and has plenty of experience at both club and international levels. The France international would be a good addition to Everton’s midfield, considering his international pedigree and volumes of European experience.

Verdict

As far as Matuidi is concerned, he is nearing the end of his prime but he’s still performing at the top level and could be good for two or three years in the Premier League.

The former Saint-Etienne man would make an instant impact at the club and Silva shouldn’t hesitate to bring Matuidi to Merseyside this summer.
