Why Everton must go all out to sign Boubacar Kamara in January

Back in September, the Chronicle had revealed that Everton and Newcastle United have looked at Marseille’s young centre-back Boubacar Kamara.

A product of the Marseille youth academy, Boubacar Kamara, 20, made his first-team debut back in 2017. Since then, the defender has racked up over 50 appearances at Stade Velodrome. The 20-year-old has made 12 appearances across all competitions so far this season.

The report notes that Kamara signed a new deal at Marseille in September and he is now priced at £16million. That being said, Everton must go all out to sign the France Under-21 international in January.

Everton have been terribly inconsistent this season and sit just four points clear of the Premier League relegation zone following their 2-0 defeat to lowly Norwich City at Goodison Park at the weekend. The Toffees were especially lacklustre against the Canaries, who claimed only their first away win of the season.

If Silva can sustain the relentless pressure and help Everton get positive results in December, the Portuguese should then aim for a couple of signings in January to strengthen his squad.

One of the areas the Everton boss should prioritise strengthening is the defence, with the Merseysiders having already conceded 20 goals in 13 games.

The likes of Yerry Mina and Michael Keane haven’t been consistent enough to keep things tight at the heart of the defence, and that coupled with Phil Jagielka’s departure to Sheffield United on a free transfer in the summer and the failure to secure a permanent transfer for Chelsea loanee Kurt Zouma have affected Everton badly.

Suffice to say, the Toffees have left a lot to desire with at the back. Thus, they must sign a central defender in the New Year and Boubacar Kamara would be a good fit at the Goodison Park.

Kamara might be just 20 but he has the potential to make an instant impact at Everton. He is playing regularly for Marseille and looks ready for first-team football in the Premier League. The young gun is a versatile defensive player who can operate in defensive midfield as well.

More Everton News

As per WhoScored.com, the Frenchman has averaged 49.5 passes per game at an accuracy rate of 88.2%, including 3.5 successful long balls, 2.5 tackles, 1.5 interception, 2.5 clearances and 0.7 blocks per game in the Ligue 1 this term. Kamara is still very young and those numbers point to a level of maturity that belies his tender years as a professional footballer.

Verdict

To put things into perspective, Kamara is still in his formative years but Everton would bag a brilliant long-term investment by signing him. A January move for Marseille’s defensive ace could pay off handsomely for the Toffees in the years to come.
