Everton opinion – Toffees should offer one-year extension to Phil Jagielka
Everton
A win away at West Ham which is sandwiched between those two famous results signals the progress made.
Now, with four positive results in short space of time, they are now only one point behind seventh-placed Leicester City and have a chance to finish in the Europa League places by the end of this season.
While the attacking play has definitely improved over the past few weeks, defensive work has been top class, especially when it comes to keeping clean sheets (four in the last five games).
In terms of the options they have in central defence, Kurt Zouma and Michael Keane seem to be the first-choice pair. Yerry Mina and Phil Jagielka act as backups.
While Zouma’s stay at Goodison Park is still not confirmed even though the manager wants him, (h/t Liverpool Echo) Mina is an injury-prone player who hasn’t been able to make a mark in English football.
Hence, it would make sense for Everton offer a new contract to Jagielka, at least for one more year.
The veteran is now 36 years old and his contract expires this summer. But, by successfully stepping in against Arsenal, he showed that there is still something left in him to offer to the club.

Conclusion
Everton are still a young side, thus, they would require experience around them to succeed as a unit. Therefore, the presence of Jagielka for one more year could aid them as a team moving forward.
