Everton opinion: Toffees would be better off avoiding Yacine Brahimi

The Liverpool Echo has reported that Yacine Brahimi is still waiting for an offer from Everton, which is something the Toffees shouldn’t really consider.

Currently contracted to FC Porto, the 29-year-old’s contract does expire at the end of the season. While Porto are interested in tying him down to a new deal, the forward is waiting before deciding his future.

As mentioned, the Liverpool Echo has revealed that Porto are keen to re-sign him to a new deal but are not open to the 29-year-old’s wage demands. This has changed things and left Brahimi’s future uncertain, with no idea where he’ll go next.

While Everton do need new options in wide positions, Yacine Brahimi is not one that they should really be considering.

Given how the Theo Walcott experiment worked, the 29-year-old is clearly a player who Everton should stay far away from. A winger, Brahimi depends a lot on his pace.

However, he is a very clinical player in front of goal, doing well for the Portuguese giants since joining them in 2014. On an average, he’s scored at least 5 goals a season for the club and has averaged 5 assists a season.

While these aren’t world-class figures, it’s good enough for a mid-table Premier League club and that is not what Everton are aiming at. With the additions of Richarlison, Lucas Digne, Bernard and Andre Gomes, Everton have the ability to punch above their weight.

That combined with Marco Silva’s brand of attacking football gives them a chance to possibly attain a Europa League or even a Champions League spot.

Hence, this shows why a move for Yacine Brahimi would hurt their chances, as the Porto man is far too old now. The Toffees should instead be considering a move for players in and around the 25-year mark..

Conclusion

Everton have the potential to do great things but given their recent track record with transfers, adding another 29-year-old struggling forward is certainly not going to help the club.

But they do need another forward in the near future and adding someone like Yacine Brahimi could be detrimental for them.
