Everton must accept this €30m offer and sanction an exit for this tough-tackling 29-year-old at the earliest

Everton Opinion: Why the Toffees should sell Idrissa Gueye to PSG?

According to a report from L’Equipe, Paris Saint-Germain have made a new €30m offer Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye. (h/t France Football)

The French giants failed with their bid to sign Gueye in the January transfer window but they have now re-opened negotiations with the Toffees. PSG are desperate to strengthen their central midfield and have made signing the Senegalese a priority this summer. They have already snapped up Ander Herrera on a free transfer and Thomas Tuchel looks hungry for more.

Gueye has been a key figure at Goodison Park since moving to the club from Aston Villa in 2016. Everton boss Marco Silva made Gueye a central part of his plans last season, working in tandem with Andre Gomes successfully. And with Gomes signed permanently from Barcelona, Silva will be keen to develop the partnership still further.

But the Everton boss should look to sell the 29-year-old this summer and create a new partnership in midfield in the upcoming season.

The Toffees must definitely reject PSG’s opening bid as Gueye is valued much higher than €30m. He has been a consistent performer for Everton since joining from Aston Villa, establishing himself as one of the best holding midfield players in the Premier League.

A midfield enforcer, the Senegalese has immense stamina and energy which helps him tirelessly move around the pitch and break opposition’s attacks. He is technically solid, can pass the ball well and keep things ticking over for his team. An excellent tackler, Gueye also possesses good pace, dribbling skills and power on his right leg.

But the ex-Aston Villa star is 29 and at the prime of his game at the moment, which means now is the only chance to get a substantial amount from his sale. Gueye is contracted at the Goodison Park until 2022 and the Toffees must take full advantage of the situation and use the potential funds from the midfielder’s sale to reinvest in other areas of his squad.

Verdict

After Everton rejected PSG’s offer in January, Gueye claimed in February that he hoped the Ligue 1 champions would come back in for him. And now that they are back, Silva should let go of the Senegalese to live his dream of playing in the Champions League and replace him with a young player.
