The Daily Star has reported that Everton are preparing for a future without Lucas Digne, with the Frenchman really impressing since a move to the Premier League.
He arrived over the summer, alongside the likes of Richarlison, Andre Gomes, Yerry Mina and a few others. While a few others have struggled, Digne has been amongst the club’s standout performers so far, playing a big role.
He’s made 28 appearances in the Premier League, starting every game and more importantly, he has contributed to 7 goals so far. That is a phenomenal return for a left-back in his very first season at the club, which just shows how talented Lucas Digne is.
Unwilling to play second fiddle to Jordi Alba at Barcelona, the 25-year-old opted to move to the Premier League and it has been right so far.
Digne’s blend of pace and physicality, combined with his defensive nous and conditioning has suited the tough English game perfectly. But more importantly for Everton, the tactical training he received at both Barcelona and PSG have paid dividends in England.
That is why Digne has become such a massive asset to the Toffees and an integral part of manager Marco Silva’s teamsheet. Only red card suspension has kept the 25-year-old out of the Everton team and his presence has been one of the many reasons why the Toffees have done relatively well.
If it is statistics one needs, then no defender has managed to make more tackles or interceptions than Digne, with only Idrissa Gueye leading the defensive statistics (Whoscored).
It showcases just how well the Frenchman has adjusted to the Premier League and further emphasises why a sale should never be approved. Leighton Baines has been a consistent presence for a little over 12 years, but the 34-year-old is growing older and is struggling to stay fit.
Given that the Toffees spent north of £20million (BBC) on Lucas Digne, it makes no sense letting him go.
