Everton snapping up this Chelsea star would keep their squad intact for the upcoming season – opinion

Everton opinion: The Toffees should convince Chelsea to sell them Zouma

According to reports from English news outlet the Telegraph, Everton have started a conversation with Chelsea over bringing Kurt Zouma back. The Blues’ centre-back spent the season on loan with the Toffees and was amongst their best players.

Not just that, with injuries elsewhere, it saw Zouma get a chance to showcase what he really could do when given the chance. The report further adds that once Andre Gomes’ permanent deal is completed, Everton will begin stern negotiations for the Frenchman.

It seems that Marco Silva is a big fan of both the players and has made it clear that he wants them at the club. That is a massive change for the Toffees and it’s one that should put them over the moon.

Not only will it make them a bonafide contender for the Europa League but it should change the course of the club’s future.

Everton hasn’t had the best time in the transfer market over the last few seasons, with more than a few notable flops. However, their last transfers from last summer turned out brilliantly, with only injuries preventing Yerry Mina from making a bigger impact.

In the long run, however, the Colombian centre-back has just not got the talent but the physical frame to flourish in the Premier League. Till he does just that, Everton need a new centre-back partner for Michael Keane and given how well Kurt Zouma played alongside him last season, the move has to happen.

The two centre-backs were an impressive pairing, flourishing alongside each other. A modern defender, Zouma was once considered to be one of Chelsea’s best prospects.

He joined the club as a teenager before finding his footing during the 2015/16 Premier League season. Not only did Zouma help a struggling Chelsea survive but more importantly, he did it as a mere 21-year-old.

It shows his confidence and ability, both on and off the ball, which is just what Everton need to replace Phil Jagielka. The Toffees legend is leaving the club after a phenomenal time with them and it leaves them a centre-back short.

Not just that, losing the 36-year-old means losing a reliable player and that is what Kurt Zouma will bring to the side.

Conclusion

Everton have finally started performing and hitting their mark in the transfer window but they haven’t gone full swing yet. But it’s still only been one season and two transfer windows under Marco Silva, which is why he needs some more time.

At the same time, adding Kurt Zouma will help them progress that much faster and that’s an advantage they have to take.
