Everton can finally replace Lukaku if they sign this Roma star in the summer – opinion

Everton opinion: Toffees should take the gamble to sign Patrik Schick

If there is one thing that Everton need, it’s a bonafide consistent goalscoring star, someone who is a cross between Cenk Tosun and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. They need someone like Romelu Lukaku but strikers like the Belgian are out of Everton’s budget and thus, they need to look for someone cheaper.

But in this transfer economy, there is no such thing as cheap, let alone a consistent goalscoring striker. Everton and Marco Silva need reinforcements in the summer if they plan to take on the Premier league’s top six.

That will be easier said than done and at the same time, it’s something that Silva has to do. They’ll need new midfielders, a replacement for Idrissa Gueye (Sky Sports) and maybe even another winger to help make up for former Arsenal star Theo Walcott’s decline.

However, one player that the Toffees do need is a striker and that should be number one on their list over the summer. While there are a number of players they can target, Serie A star Patrik Schick is one of them.

The 23-year-old has struggled immensely since his move to AS Roma, but the skill and talent that made the Serie A giants pay so much is still there. Tall but technically excellent, Schick made a lasting impact during his first season at Sampdoria.

Not only did he score 11 goals, but he did it in just 1507 minutes of football, at a finishing rate to rival Andrea Belotti and Mauro Icardi. That convinced Roma to make a move and succeed.

But Patrik Schick looks a shadow of his former self at the club and maybe a change of scene can do the trick. What does make him so perfect for Everton is the fact that he’s exactly the same as the man the club are trying to replace.

Someone who is a younger and cheaper version of Romelu Lukaku with the ability to carry them into a future that consists of European football. Patrik Schick is all that with a touch of innovation and creativity to his style of play.

The 23-year-old works hard and despite being played out of position at AS Roma, the Polish international has never complained. A team player through and through, Schick’s strength and ability on the ball will help make the transition from the Serie A to the Premier League easier.

That has seen Crystal Palace note their interest (Sun) but no move materialised. And its high time Everton make a move.
