Everton 1-1 Tottenham: Tottenham player ratings

Everton and Tottenham shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw in the Premier League on Sunday, with the ninety minutes at Goodison Park having plenty of drama and talking points for both sets of fans.

After a cagey first half where both teams visibly looked short of confidence, the game really came to life after the interval.

Paulo Gazzaniga made an excellent save to deny Richarlison an opener before Alex Iwobi’s moment of sloppiness allowed Heung-min Son to play in Dele Alli, who latched on to the through ball and put the visitors in the lead just after the hour mark with a composed finish.

Both the teams had appeals for a penalty turned down by VAR and Walcott came close to equalising for Everton soon after but Son’s horrific tackle on Andre Gomes saw Mauricio Pochettino’s side go down to ten men.

Gomes suffered a terrible injury, with Son’s challenge from behind leading to a collision with Serge Aurier that left both sets of players distraught at the extent of the damage to the Portuguese star.

With twelve minutes added on and Everton with the numerical advantage, the Toffees eventually managed to draw level, as substitute Cenk Tosun headed home the equaliser from Lucas Digne’s cross to earn his side a crucial point at home.

Here’s how we the Tottenham stars fared at Goodison Park:-

Tottenham Player Ratings

Paulo Gazzaniga (6/10)

Made an incredible save to deny Ricarlison an opener early in the second half. Had little chance to stop Tosun’s headed equaliser in injury-time but didn’t have too much to do apart from that.

Serge Aurier (6/10)

Decent display from the Ivorian, both in terms of attack and defence. Put in some good deliveries into the box and showed good composure at the back.

Toby Alderweireld (6.5/10)

The Belgian didn’t have too much pressure to handle, with Everton hardly posing a consistent attacking threat. Made some crucial blocks and interceptions, cleared his lines whenever required until Tosun found the net late in the game.

Davinson Sanchez (6/10)

Looked a tad shaky in possession and was given a real run for his money by Richarlison, although he didn’t fare too badly in his personal duel against the Brazilian.

Ben Davies (6/10)

The Welshman didn’t do too much wrong but wasn’t influential either. Led the team down on a number of occasions with the quality of his final ball.

Moussa Sissoko (6.5/10)

Just like most of his teammates, the Frenchman too put in a decent shift in the middle of the park. Showed good industry and did well to thwart the opposition at times.

Tanguy Ndombele (7/10)

Arguably the most influential player in the midfield for Spurs in the first half. Showed some neat touches and tried to switch the play with some audacious long balls.

Heung-min Son (7/10)

The South Korean really came to the fore after a quiet first half. Was denied a penalty by VAR as he was deemed to have gone down way too easily after a challenge from Yerry Mina. Grabbed the assist for Alli’s opener with a good pass but sent off for a horror tackle on Gomes.

Christian Eriksen (3/10)

Doesn’t look like he’s playing for the badge any longer. Another uninspired display from the playmaker that must have left the fans wondering whether he is interested to play for the club.

Dele Alli (7/10)

Lively but had no impact in the final third in the first half. Improved significantly after the interval and put Spurs in the lead with a well-taken goal.

Lucas Moura (4/10)

Was hardly involved in the game in the first half as all the players struggled to make their presence felt. Was pushed out wide after the break, with Son playing up top but that never made any difference to what was a lacklustre display from the Brazilian.

Substitutes

Giovani Lo Celso (4/10)

Not much impact. Could probably have done a little more to stop Digne’s cross that led to Tosun’s equaliser.

More Tottenham News

Ryan Sessegnon (N/A)

Came on for his debut late in injury-time.

Juan Foyth (N/A)

Helped Spurs shore things up at the back.
