According to a report in the Liverpool Echo, Everton are hoping to solve their forward issues by making an ambitious bid for Juventus’ Mario Mandzukic. The Croatian international has been one of the top centre-forwards in Europe in the last decade.
Often underrated, Mandzukic is one of the best target-men in the game and is also an extremely hardworking forward, even playing an entire season on the wing for Max Allegri.
Now 33 and probably past his best, it’s maybe time for the Croatian to look at a new challenge. He’s played at the very top for quite a while now with the likes of Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and Juventus.
Everton desperately need a striker with Cenk Tosun and Dominic Calvert-Lewin not doing enough last season. Tosun scored only 2 and Calvert-Lewin scoring 6.
This definitely isn’t enough for a club like Everton and Mandzukic would definitely help rejuvenate the entire squad. He would not just score himself goals himself but also bring other players into play.
Last season, Everton depended far too heavily on Gylfi Siggurdson and Richarlison to bail them out of trouble with regards to goals and creativity. They also depended far too much on Lucas Digne for creativity and will need better outlets this season.
The likes of Everton, West Ham, Wolves and Leicester will be sniffing about and hoping to take one of the top-six or top-four spots this season with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal going through transitional phases. Everton would be making a massive statement by signing someone with the profile of Mandzukic.
He would be a great person for the younger player like Calvert-Lewin to look up to and the other younger players. Everton have shown a lot of promise in the last few years but ultimately failed to deceive. Their last transfer window was quite good though but more was expected when they hired Marco Silva.

Marco Silva must be aware of the fact that the 8th place won’t be enough next season as the Toffees are looking to break into higher places and have invested a lot in the last two seasons to achieve that.
Manzukic’s European experience will help them the Toffees on their way to the higher tiers.
