EPL Team Of The Week – Gameweek 7
We have already watched game-week 7 and the Premier League has showcased the competitive nature of the competition, with even the smaller clubs taking the fight to the heavyweights of the league. With this being the final game-week before the international break, teams would have targeted all three points to end September on a high, but things don’t always work the way you plan, especially in the Premier League.
Crystal Palace, who were still without a single point coming into game-week 7, continued their misery as Manchester United beat them 4-0 at Old Trafford. Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool who were desperate to get their first win 7 games had to settle for another draw, at the hands of Benitez’s Newcastle. Spurs and Arsenal got three points and Manchester City earned 3 points as well, at Stamford Bridge, with 1-0 win over Chelsea.
Here is the Team of the Week for Match Day 7 of the EPL:
GK – Rob Elliot (Newcastle United)
The Magpies goalkeeper did well to keep out the dangerous Liverpool attack helping them earn a well deserved 1-1 draw at St.James’s Park.
RB – Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur)
The English right-back is proving worthy of his price-tag as he continued to impress on the right-hand side, both in the attack and in the defence.
CB – James Tarkowski (Burnley FC)
The 24 year old English centre-back was once again solid in defence, helping his side hold on to a 1-0 lead at Goodison Park. He could soon be getting an England call-up as he has helped the Clarets keep their unbeaten away record.
CB – Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham Hotspur)
The Belgium centre-back is undoubtedly one of the best, if not the best defenders in the League as he helped his side keep yet another clean sheet, against Huddersfield.
LB – Ben Davies (Tottenham Hotspur)
The 24-year-old Welsh left-back continues to impress in the absence of Danny Rose as he scored one and set up another in the game against Huddersfield. Danny Rose might have to find another club if Davies continues his form.
CAM – Philippe Coutinho (Liverpool)
The Brazilian has scored in each of his last two starts and once again was on the scoresheet for the Reds, after scoring a peach from outside the box to give his side the lead. But that effort was not utilised by Liverpool, who let Joselu equalise for the Magpies minutes later.
CM – Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City)
De Bruyne’s brilliant strike was the difference as City beat Chelsea 1-0 at the Bridge. The Belgian looked threatening all game and earned his side a deserved win.
CM – Marouane Fellaini (Manchester United)
For a midfielder who doesn’t start too often, Fellaini certainly scores a lot of goals. The Belgian scored twice for the Red Devils, with his team grabbing an easy win against a pathetic Crystal Palace.
Left-wing – Juan Mata (Manchester United)
The Spaniard looked really sharp against Palace and even managed to outshine the in-form Mkhitaryan, as he scored the first goal for United. Mata could feature regularly in the next few weeks.
Right-wing – Richarlison (Watford FC)
Watford’s Brazilian summer signing has been one of the most impressive rookies this season and he certainly made a mark for himself after scoring the equaliser in stoppage-time to earn his team a draw while also setting up Doucoure earlier in the game.
Striker – Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur)
There was just no stopping Harry Kane, as he put two past Huddersfield. He continues to prove that he is a world-class striker. There is certainly more to come from the England international.
