Why Tottenham will do the right thing by selling Danny Rose this summer

According to a report by the Mirror, Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur are willing to sell England left-back Danny Rose by the end of this month. French club Paris Saint-Germain have joined German club Schalke in the chase for the £50m-rated left-back (h/t Mirror).

Rose is one of England’s best left-sided defenders who, unfortunately, saw his progressive career get derailed after a serious injury at the start of 2017. A knee injury kept him out of action for a prolonged period, forcing Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino to provide Ben Davies with a chance in that position and the Welshman grasped that opportunity with both hands.

Now, the tables have turned and Rose is Davies’ understudy. So, Tottenham are doing the right thing by selling Rose, since it will benefit the club and the player. Here’s why moving elsewhere will aid Rose in resurrecting his career:

Danny Rose

Change of environment

Under Pochettino, Tottenham are known for playing a high-intensity game, where the full-backs do most of the running up and down the pitch. They are key to this system since they help in providing width while attacking. At the same time, they must stay diligent and make recovery runs when caught higher up the pitch. Moreover, the high-pressing in wide areas by squeezing the defensive line is a vital aspect as well.

This kind of play requires stamina and fitness of the highest level. To play for Tottenham’s first-team, one must be able to train with such intensity and deliver the same on the pitch.

And Rose had endured an intraarticular ligament cracked knee, which took over seven months to heal.

With the help of medical science, if a player has recovered from a bad knee injury, it would be tough for him to thrive in Pochettino’s high-octane system of football. Plus, as things stand, the Premier League is one of the most demanding football leagues in the world.

Hence, it would be best for Rose to move to a different league that’s probably not as taxing as the English top-flight.

Verdict

The potential move will help Spurs gain a good amount of money to spend in January if required. On the other hand, for Rose, it will be a great opportunity to move elsewhere and play regularly.
