Why Marcus Rashford must leave Manchester United to fulfil this potential

According to reports in Metro, Arsenal legend Ian Wright has stated that youngster Marcus Rashford has a ‘massive decision’ to make and may have to leave Manchester United in order to fulfil his abundant potential.

The England international broke into the first-team at Old Trafford with great promise under Louis Van Gaal. He scored back to back braces to start off his Manchester United career – not at all a bad way to kick off the proceedings.

Talking BBC Radio 5 Live (h/t Metro), Wright mentioned a few vital things, which included Rashford’s career from the start when he burst onto the scene under Louis Van Gaal. The Arsenal legend spoke about the attributes that Rashford possesses, especially when playing as a central striker.

The £50,000-a-week youngster can exploit the space in behind a defence and link up play from midfield. He is a deadly finisher too in front of goal when the opportunity arises.

Wright further spoke about how the 20-year-old is now being used on the wings under Mourinho, which isn’t helping the player’s confidence. For that reason, the former Arsenal striker was very stern while saying Rashford needs to make a decision in the next year or so on whether he has to stay at United or not. (Metro)

So moving forward with Wright’s comments, it is pretty clear what Rashford has to do in the next year or so to fulfil his potential – leave Manchester United. Moreover, Jose Mourinho is not that type of manager who perpetually gives youngsters a chance when they are in an inconsistent patch.

The Portuguese is more of man-manager of finished articles who are here to perform consistently and win trophies.

Playing in different positions other than his natural slot won’t develop the talent that Rashford has. He has the pace and guile to become a good winger, but as per the evidence of his early days, the 20-year-old is a frightening prospect when played centrally.

It is pretty clear that under the current management at Manchester United, Rashford won’t be able to consistently play games week in week out. He might have to take a brave decision of leaving Old Trafford to join a club which guarantees him the central striker role more playing minutes. He is still 20, hence the more he plays, the more he matures goes onto become a big player in the future.
