Andy Carroll
West Ham United are going into the new season with a new head coach in the form of Manuel Pellegrini, who is an English Premier League winning manager. The former Manchester City manager is expected to bring a passing and attacking brand of football to the club.
Understandably, there will be changes in the tactics at West Ham and certain players are expected to be offloaded as well.
In this article, we will highlight 3 reasons as to why West Ham could benefit by selling Andy Carroll this summer.
Andy Carroll has nicked in a few important goals for West Ham over the years, but he never managed to establish himself as the main man.
Over the past season, Carroll was mostly used as an option whenever the team needed to play direct football. In his 18 appearances this past season, Carroll only managed to score only 3 goals, which is a disappointing return for a striker.
It’s time for West Ham to ditch Carroll for a new striker to get themselves a new dimension in the attack. Carroll, 29, hasn’t lived up to his potential and the Hammers must recognise that before going into the new season.
Pellegrini is a coach who is known for playing the game with certain passing and attacking standards. Thus, he would need a striker who can get involved in the build-up whilst offering a threat going forward. Carroll is a good target man but he isn’t certainly among the most gifted footballers.
Carroll isn’t a player who can dribble his way out of a situation or find a teammate with a good pass. His lack of ability on the ball makes him a clear misfit in a passing system which relies on the technical prowess of players.
Carroll isn’t known for professionalism and discipline. On the contrary, he is a player who often finds himself in trouble because of his disregarding attitude.
The new season will be nothing short of a challenge for the club and West Ham must do everything they can to secure a top-10 finish at least. And to do that, they will need a close-knit group and Carroll might end up being the reason behind some unnecessary tensions, which must be avoided.
