Enough is enough – It is high time for Aston Villa to offload this lacklustre 30-year-old in the summer and procure funds for other transfers

Aston Villa Opinion – Why Aston Villa should offload Neil Taylor in the summer

Aston Villa are currently in a situation where even a top-six finish is looking highly unlikely. Dean Smith’s men are in a run of form where not many things are going in the right way. Hence, they find themselves eight points adrift of sixth-placed Bristol City, having played two more games than them.

The Villa Park-based team are yet to win in February and are conceding goals for fun. They have already let in 53 goals in 34 league games, which is simply not good enough for a team that is aiming for Premier League promotion.

Therefore, it is clear that the squad needs some surgery in the right way before they can become genuine challengers for the Championship title. Starting with the defence, Smith and his men must offload few players and get some quality additions.

Out of the mediocre bunch, here’s why they should offload Neil Taylor in the summer window:

The Welshman has been not good enough

Taylor arrived at Villa Park in the January window of 2017 and was a regular in the team up until the end of last season. However, injuries have marred his progress this year and his performance level has gone down significantly.

As a result, we have seen Alan Hutton, who is a right-back, playing on the other side in a few games. Now, Dean Smith has Kortney Hause on loan from Wolves, who continues to get picked ahead of all the other options.

To be fair to the 23-year-old, he has done well in the four games he featured in and has impressed the Villa faithful around. (Birmingham Mail) Hence, it won’t be a bad idea to sign the Wolves man on a permanent deal, and offload Neil Taylor in the summer.

The latter’s performance level has gone down a bit and he is more of a defensive-minded fullback, meaning the Welshman’s contributions is limited when it comes to the wide attacking areas.

Furthermore, the team is not keeping out opposition attacks from scoring, thus, the defensive side of the game is not getting into fruition as well.

Conclusion

It is pretty clear that Villa need reinforcements in the summer if they are to become a force in the Championship. Defensive solidity would be the first step in the right direction.

For that reason, offloading Taylor won’t be a bad idea, especially given the fact that Hause has been doing better since getting the start.
