Former Netherlands international Willem van Hanegem has labelled former Dutch manager and the current Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal boring for his style of football. Van Gaal’s United have recently come in for criticism for being too negative and Van Hanegem has joined the list that includes former Manchester United stars Paul Scholes and Dwight Yorke.

SoccerNews have reported on comments Van Hanegem made in which he described Van Gaal’s approach as taking the fun away from people. The midfielder realises the Manchester United boss is a good coach and highlighted his time with the Dutch national team as a good example of his management. Van Hanegem also said that during the last World Cup the side started to play more attractive football when he used a 4-3-3 formation rather than 5-3-2.

Van Gaal takes the fun away from the people. Van Gaal is a good trainer as his teams get results. Look at the Oranje in the World Cup, but when it did it become fun? When they switched from 5-3-2 to 4-3-3,” said Van Hanegem.
