Dream Manchester United XI for 2018/19 season featuring £140,000-a-week Tottenham duo

Jose Mourinho

Dream Manchester United Line-up For 2018/19 Season

There has been a significant improvement this season for Manchester United under Jose Mourinho. United are in a commanding position to finish as runners-up to champions Manchester City and finish the season by winning the FA Cup against Chelsea on May 19.

However, Mourinho’s team need to improve more if they are to challenge Manchester City for the title next season. The Portuguese tactician has to get a couple of top quality players and eliminate deadwood from his squad in the summer transfer window.

Knowing that there is a lot of work to be done to become the best in England, here is a dream Manchester United XI for the 2018/19 season.

Manchester United Dream XI

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Manager: Jose Mourinho

David De Gea (GK)

Currently the best goalkeeper in the world, De Gea has time and again saved United’s skin and he will continue to be the No.1 between the sticks next season.

Djibril Sidibe (RB)

While Antonio Valencia has benefited a lot since Mourinho’s appointment, the Colombian will turn 33 in August and that asks for a long-term replacement.

According to last month’s reports, United are tracking the progress of AS Monaco right-back, Djibril Sidibe. The Frenchman is an attacking full-back with great pace and power. He would be a fantastic signing for the Red Devils.

Eric Bailly (CB)

Bailly has been United’s most reliable centre-half when fully fit. The Ivorian brings a lot of aggression and solidity to the backline, inspiring a lot of confidence in the team. One of Mourinho’s top signings so far at United.

Toby Alderweireld (CB)

United have had a lot of conundrum in finding a perfect partner for Bailly this season. Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Victor Lindelof and Marcos Rojo have all played this season but Mourinho has found it difficult to get a stable centre-back pairing.

As per several reports, United are interested in signing £75,000-a-week Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld in the summer. The Belgian has failed to agree a deal with Tottenham and United must intensify their efforts to sign him at the end of the season.

Danny Rose (LB)

Luke Shaw’s career at United isn’t looking all that good and while Ashley Young has performed admirably well in a makeshift left-back role, it is clear that Mourinho needs a new left-back to challenge City for the title next season.

The Red Devils are believed to be interested in signing £65,000-a-week Danny Rose from Tottenham this summer. Rose recovered from a serious knee injury last autumn but has struggled to nail down a regular place in the Spurs team. The England international is theoretically at his peak and Mourinho should go all out to sign him.

Danny Rose

Nemanja Matic (CM)

Since joining United from Chelsea at the start of the season, Matic has been a permanent fixture in the team. The Serbian has adapted to life at Old Trafford brilliantly, establishing himself as one of the first names on the team sheet.

Paul Pogba (CM)

It hasn’t been an overwhelming season for Paul Pogba as I expected him to come out flying after a disappointing 2016/17 campaign. One can blame it on the Frenchman’s failure to adapt or Mourinho’s ineptness to use him properly. However, Pogba has come good in the last few games and he could be massive next campaign.

Anthony Martial (LW)

Anthony Martial has delivered the goods this season but has found game time tough to come by since the arrival of Alexis Sanchez in January. Martial has undoubted talent and is one of the finest dribblers in the Premier League. Mourinho must show faith in the Frenchman and utilise him properly next season.

Alexis Sanchez (RW)

Sanchez has struggled to live up to the billing so far at Manchester United but there is no doubting his talent and ability to win games by the scruff of its neck. The Chilean will be colossal for the Red Devils next campaign.

Alexis Sanchez

Jesse Lingard (CAM)

Lingard has been outstanding this season, dishing out impressive performances by assisting and scoring goals for fun. He has been the most improved player under Mourinho. The academy kid’s delivery and work rate have improved considerably and so he deserves more game time next season.

Romelu Lukaku (ST)

What a brilliant piece of signing he has been for Man United! It is not just about scoring goals but Lukaku has improved significantly in all aspects of his game under Mourinho. The powerful Belgian adapted very well and should lead the line for United next season too.
