Derby County’s Dream Attacking Line-up Next Season If They Sign This Burnley Star

Derby County

How Would Derby County’s Attack Line Up Next Season

Derby County seem keen on bringing George Boyd from Burnley to Pride Park and it would certainly be a move in the right direction for the Rams.

Boyd’s Premier League form has been admirable and often overlooked. So applying his skills in the Championship could work in a similar fashion to that of Ritchie at Newcastle or Knockaert at Brighton. Here’s how they could line up with Boyd in the side:

George Boyd (Attacking Midfield, Right)

The left-footed Scot is very comfortable on this side and in this sense would be a like-for-like replacement for Tom Ince, if he is sold in the summer.

Boyd provided 2 goals and an assist at Burnley last term but in the Championship, his output would be much higher, meaning that he could fill the void left by Ince quite well. He would also not cost too much, and hence he wouldn’t responsible for the reinvestment of the cash, and that could be spent on other signings.

Matej Vydra (Attacking Midfield, Centre)

The former Watford man has been a disappointment but he has indicated that he needs to play through the centre and may get his wish on a full-time basis next season.

Despite him underperforming and being moved around the team, Vydra did bag 5 Championship goals last season and would be on course for a lot more if he is made to feel important enough. He is only 25-years-old and still has a lot more to offer.

Johnny Russell (Attacking Midfield, Left)

The Scot’s performances seem to improve when he is allowed to play in this position and he could be given the role at the expense of Ikechi Anya next term.

His 2 goals and 2 assists last season were provided from exactly this position, though he showed his versatility in providing 2 goals after starting on the right or in the centre.

Louis Moult (Striker)

On the assumption that Nugent and Bent are not regarded as good enough, Gary Rowett is fully expected to go into the transfer market for a new hit man.

Signing Louis Moult could prove to be a relatively inexpensive way to start re-moulding Derby County’s squad and adding goals to it; especially important since Tom Ince could be sold very soon. Winger Ince’s sale could yet be a good thing for Rowett, with only a little fee needed to capture Moult and begin the process of turning Derby into a high-scoring Championship superpower.
