Why Lucas Perez to West Ham will be a good move by the club

According to BBC, West Ham United are close to signing Arsenal forward Lucas Perez. The Spaniard went out on loan to Deportivo La Coruna last season after a difficult first season at the Emirates Stadium.

ESPN states that Arsenal might settle for a price of around £5m for the forward who still has the qualities to strengthen West Ham’s attacking line-up.

It will be a fantastic deal for Manuel Pellegrini’s men who have already done a fantastic job by bringing in high-class players this summer. Getting Perez will add some much-needed strength in depth, which will make them a terrific proposition for the upcoming season.

Here’s why West Ham signing Lucas Perez would be a fantastic move for the club:

Player Analysis – Lucas Perez

Age – 29

Main Positions – Winger, Striker

Perez is a versatile forward who can play on the wings and also through the middle. The 29-year-old has the pace and dribbling skills to be a viable threat on the counter-attack. He has a dribble rate of 0.9 per game, which depicts his propensity to breeze past opponents and open up space for a shot or a through ball.

The Spaniard has an impressive key pass rate of 2.3, which indicates the fact that he can not only score goals but also supply them if given time and space on the ball. He created a total of 79 chances in 35 La Liga appearances last season.

Lucas Perez

Perez netted 8 goals and provided assists, being a genuine threat to the defenders. He is the kind of player who can stretch a defence by running in behind or making direct progress with the ball.

Pellegrini would love to have him playing on the wing and deliver deadly crosses into the box. The only worry for the West Ham manager will be the lack of defensive contribution that Perez exhibits off the ball.

Verdict

Perez is a fantastic player overall and will increase the quality of West Ham’s front line. The Spaniard would relish a move out of Arsenal too because it will be difficult for him to get regular game time at the Emirates with the quality that is present at the Emirates right now. Hence, the Hammers going for the 29-year-old is a fantastic move.
