Do it Emery – Arsenal must do everything in their powers to land this Bayern Munich ace

According to reports, Arsenal are willing to pay up to £60m to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Corentin Tolisso.

Tolisso joined the Bavarians from Lyon for £36.5m last season. In the same window, he was also linked with a move to Arsenal for a similar fee. But it was Bayern Munich, who ultimately won the race to sign him.

Arsenal’s current midfield options are very limited. Jack Wilshere’s contract is running down and he could leave the Emirates Stadium on a free transfer in the summer. Santi Cazorla, one of Arsenal’s finest midfielders in recent years, has already left the club for Villarreal.

That leaves just Mohammed Elneny, Aaron Ramsey, Granit Xhaka and youngster Ainsley Maitland Niles as new manager Unai Emery’s midfield options. Arsenal have been linked with making a move for Sevilla’s Steven N’zonzi, but the north London club need at least one more midfielder in their ranks, considering they will be playing in the Europa League.

After completing the signing of Stephan Litchsteiner, Arsenal should now focus on roping in Tolisso. The Frenchman is a box-to-box midfielder, who would add an extra dimension to Arsenal’s midfield.

He is an energetic presence in midfield and is known for his physicality, good passing and late runs inside the box. The 23-year-old would be a great fit at Arsenal and would be the perfect replacement for Santi Cazorla. A midfield trio of N’zonzi, Ramsey and Tolisso could challenge almost any team in the Premier League as they will provide bruteness, defensive solidity as well the attacking impetus.

Tolisso managed to score 10 goals and provide six assists in 40 appearances in all competitions for the Bavarians in his debut season in Germany. He also registered just less than one key pass per game, 1.2 tackles per game and boasts an impressing passing accuracy of over 90%.

Tolisso is expected to play a major part for France in the World Cup, with the former Lyon man impressing in the latest international friendlies. He has also fared well in the Champions League for Bayern; he scored a brace against Paris Saint-Germain and also managed to find the back of the net against Real Madrid.

It remains to be seen if Bayern Munich allow Tolisso to leave in the summer but it will surely be a big coup for Arsenal if they manage to bring him to the Emirates Stadium.
