The F.A Cup recorded one of its most shocking results on Sunday, as National League side Sutton United dumped out Premier League hopefuls Leeds United, out of the competition’s 4th round.
Naming a much more different starting XI consisting of 10 2nd stringers, Monk’s gamble to rest his best players ahead of Wednesday’s Championship clash against Blackburn Rovers backfired as his team struggled all game against the non-League team.
The visitors’ only remarkable chance fell to Stuart Dallas in the 1st half when he was put through on goal, but he was denied by the hosts’ goalie Ross Worner. Sutton dominated for larger parts of the game, with Deacon having a goal controversially disallowed while also forcing Marco Silvestri to 2 fine saves.
Following a goalless 1st half, Jamie Collins put the hosts ahead deservedly from the spot, and the Leeds reserve team couldn’t find a reply all game, with stand-in skipper Cooper getting sent off with 8 minutes to go upon getting his 2nd yellow.

Despite pulling off 2 great saves and managing to keep Leeds in the game, his attempt on the penalty was poor and he looked error-prone onwards.

Denton
Was the best of the back four as he always tried to make something happened offensively, but he found the hosts too hard to break down most of the times while his challenges often looked too harsh and poorly timed.

McKay
Not the best of debuts for the youngster who was constantly put under a lot of pressure by the semi-professionals who looked surprisingly very experienced to cause Leeds backline a lot of problems.

Coyle
Despite looking to have a good game at the beginning of the game, the youngster committed some errors, with one so grave that it sent Leeds crashing out.
A lack of communication between him and Silvestri forced him to foul Deacon in the box.

Cooper
Looked out of depth for a majority of the time as Sutton consistently had fun threatening Leed’s goal from time to time.
Got booked earlier on and late in the game, making it harder for the hosts to get any chance of equalizing with a man less.

Dallas
He was one of the most experienced figures on the pitch, but he squandered the best chance that could have gotten a result for Leeds.
Hardly got any service as Sutton ran the show in midfield, and he was withdrawn as Monk chased the game.

Whitehouse
Made his debut and could have won a penalty for the team.
However, his crosses were poor and he wasn’t able to make anything much happen in what was a far below average performance.

Phillips
He was below par as Sutton took charge and complete control of the midfield from him, but while he was creative, he didn’t stop battling and making challenges.

Grimes
The loanee was unarguably the worst player on the pitch, as he was too poor in the middle, bringing nothing to the table at all.
One of the players that made Monk’s gambling with his selection end up being a wrong option.

Doukara
Was isolated on the wings for much of the game and despite attempts to drift into the middle, he couldn’t make much happen in a frustrating evening for the forwards.

Antonsson
Rarely got served upfront and he was made to watch on as Sutton always took charge of proceedings on the other end of the pitch.
He wasn’t able to contribute anything of worth to the cause.

Saw no ball at all and his pace wasn’t able to get used as Monk would have thought.

Despite being recently bereaved, he was inspired enough in 15 minutes to cause few troubles for the hosts’ defence.
