Whatever West Ham paid to Marseille for the services of Dimitri Payet, it looks like the bargain of the season so far. While everyone knew that the French attacker was extremely talented, no one could have envisioned how quickly he would adapt to English football, let alone star in a team that hasn’t always played the most attractive football.
Dimitri Payet scored once again for West Ham as they were held to a 2-2 draw against Norwich; he also racked up yet another assist, thus having a role in both goals the team scored. So far this season he has scored eight goals and provided five assists, not bad for someone who wasn’t even targeted by some of the top teams in the land.
But with every performance in a jersey for the Hammers, his stock value goes up and that only means that there are some other clubs who will be trying to get his signature for next season. West Ham might have offered him a new contract but that only means the club that does want to sign Payet would have to spend a little bit extra.
The 28-year-old could fit into any of the top teams in the Premier League but we look at which club needs him the most. Manchester United and Liverpool are two teams that don’t seem to have the attacking firepower that they so badly have missed this season and Payet would do wonders for either side if he is signed up by them.
Payet is wonderful with the ball at his feet, he can start attacks and that is exactly what both teams need. Payet can pick out a great pass from anywhere on the pitch, also he is great with the dead ball and both teams need someone who can deliver a cross when it comes to it.
Dimitri though isn’t all that great when it comes to helping out the defence or even running back to help the defence. While Jurgen Klopp loves someone who does that and can fit into the system easily, Payet may be the kind of player who needs to be given the freedom to do what he is supposed to do and that is attack the other team.
Manchester United need someone centrally who can do that, Payet can play centrally and also on either wing. His crossing is the best in the country easily and Manchester United would love to have someone like him in their squad. He would certainly link up well with the rest of the squad and could provide the bump that United have needed all season.
