Crystal Palace would bag a coup by signing this £20m rising star – Hodgson must get him

Why Crystal Palace should make a move for Eberechi Eze in January

According to a report from the Sun, Queens Park Rangers star Eberechi Eze’s dream move to Tottenham could be scuppered following the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino.

Eberechi Eze, 21, has been tracked by the majority of Premier League clubs after making a huge impact in the Championship with Queens Park Rangers. He has bagged 7 goals and 4 assists in 19 appearances so far this season.

The report claims Pochettino instructed his scouts to make detailed assessments of the 21-year-old’s game ahead of a potential bid in January, and QPR had been expecting the bid to arrive next month. But with Pochettino dismissed and Jose Mourinho appointed in his place as the North London club’s manager, the youngster’s potential transfer in January is under threat, adds the Sun.

Back in January, the Daily Star (h/t Football.London) had claimed Crystal Palace were interested in signing Eze. While a deal didn’t materialise then, they must rekindle their interest in Eze when the transfer window reopens in January.

Palace have blown hot and cold this season and although Wilfried Zaha has shown signs of regaining his mojo with two goals in the last two games, they lack cutting edge in the final third. Andros Townsend has been off-colour throughout the campaign, while the likes of James McArthur, Luka Milivojevic and Cheikhou Kouyate aren’t known for their creativity.

If the Eagles are to achieve a top-eight finish, manager Roy Hodgson must sign a creative player in January. In that regard, Eberechi Eze would be a good fit for Palace.

The 21-year-old Eze is one of the standout players in the Championship and has already been included in the England Under-21 squad. He is also being monitored by Chelsea, Leicester and West Ham United, which speak volumes about his potential.

Last season, the attacker made 37 starts and five substitute appearances in the Championship for Queens Park Rangers, scoring four goals and providing three assists in the process. This season, he has already scored seven goals and provided four assists in 19 Championship appearances, which clearly shows Eze is evolving as a player.

Eze is a lively, dynamic player and offers versatility, with the ability to play as an attacking midfielder and on the wing. The Greenwich-born star has plenty of potential and plenty to offer in terms of goal threat and creativity as a No.10.

Verdict

Eze already looks to be too good for the Championship and is swiftly approaching double figures for goals from midfield this season. Valued at just £20m, Palace could bag a real coup with the 21-year-old’s signature.
