Crystal Palace are coming off the back of a historic win against Manchester United at Old Trafford after a week of apprehension.
They’ve gotten their first points for the Premier League on board and will be hoping to carry that momentum to their League Cup game against Colchester.
James Tomkins is still recovering from a groin injury and his partner at centre-back from last season is still not match fit but Palace have options and that shouldn’t be a massive problem.
Wayne Hennessey – Goalkeeper
The Welsh international will be in between the sticks. Second-choice to Vicente Guaita now, Hennessey is still a very important figure in the Palace dressing room.
Joel Ward – Right-back
Ward will be buzzing after that, having deputized for the young Aaron Wan-Bissaka last season, he’ll be hungry for game time.
Scott Dann – Centre-back
5th choice as it stands, with injuries to other senior centre-backs and Gary Cahill having just come back to full fitness, Dann should start.
Martin Kelly – Centre-back
The former Liverpool front-man has taken his chances well and should continue his progress before Tomkin and Sakho are ready to return.
Jeffrey Schlupp – Left-back
Schlupp’s versatility makes him such a key player as he can slot into left-back in place of the weekend’s match-winner Patrick van Aanholt
Cheikhou Kouyate – Central midfield
The Senegalese international will be looking to complete another 90 minutes after a tireless performance against the Red Devils.
James McCarthy – Central midfield
No better place to get off and running for the former Everton midfielder. He should be a starter after a couple of seasons with little to no game time.
Victor Camarasa – Attacking midfield
Another new face, the Spaniard will be hoping that he can impress and will help provide an attacking threat in the central midfield area.
Andros Townsend – Right-wing
The winger came off the bench in the final minutes of the game as a tactical option and should be well-rested to provide Palace’s dominant attacking threat from the right-hand side
Max Meyer – Left-wing
The German forward will likely play a lot more this season than he did last season, as his adaptation period has taken place now. He’ll have to take the creative burden of unlocking Colchester along with Camarasa.
