Crystal Palace signing this West Ham speed demon would suit them perfectly and Hodgson must get him

Crystal Palace opinion: Eagles in for Michail Antonio – Good move?

According to a report in BBC, Crystal Palace are interested in signing West Ham United winger Michail Antonio this summer.

Eagles manager Roy Hodgson is keen on bringing the Englishman to Selhurst Park before the deadline day as he aims to build a proper squad ahead of the start of the season, which is less than two weeks away. (h/t BBC)

The London-based club have made only one signing so far – making Jordan Ayew’s stay permanent. Their talisman winger Wilfried Zaha has been heavily linked with a move away. (h/t Guardian)

However, even if the Ivory Coast international stays with them, Hodgson’s men could do with a signing or two, especially in the forward line. Here’s why adding Antonio to the squad would bring something different:

Antonio’s versatility could come in handy

Predominantly a winger who can play on both flanks, Michail Antonio is a versatile player who can operate as a centre-forward or as a fullback/wing-back if required.

In terms of his attributes, he is a physically strong player on and off the ball, possesses the pace to stretch the defence on the counter, and is good at holding the ball amidst pressure. He is a good finisher too.

If fit, which is never an assurance, Antonio is a player who could make a real difference in a Crystal Palace shirt if the Eagles manage to sign him this summer.

The Englishman’s versatility and the ability to be dangerous on the counter, which is a style at Selhurst Park, could be something of paramount importance.
