Crystal Palace signing this 28-year-old Russian star would take them to another level next season

Crystal Palace opinion: Should Palace make a move for Alan Dzagoev?

Somehow, Crystal Palace have finally found their rhythm nearly a little over six months into the Premier League season.

Wilfried Zaha has found a rich vein of form, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been a revelation and more importantly in Michy Batshuayi, the club have finally found a reliable centre-forward to play off.

It could be worse, but adding Max Meyer for free was arguably the best move Roy Hodgson has made. The former Schalke man has been a creative force in the midfield and though he is still adapting to the Premier League, he has a bright future.

But that’s where the light stops and Palace, like most mid-table sides, have a few problems. Their defence this season has looked very shaky, with an otherwise solid Mamadou Sakho struggling, and their goalkeeping situation is well known.

However, despite all that, one area that the Eagles need to add to is their midfield. While they did add former West Ham man Cheikhou Kouyate, the 29-year-old has struggled to make an impact.

Not to mention, James McArthur is 31 years old and won’t be able to cope with the Premier League’s ferocity anymore and thus, they need reinforcements. One player that Crystal Palace should be looking towards is CSKA Moscow midfielder Alan Dzagoev.

The 28-year-old is a year older than club captain Luka Milivojevic but more importantly, he’s out of contract at the end of the season. Once considered as Russia’s greatest youth prospect, a young Dzagoev announced himself to the world at the 2012 Euros.

However, seven years on and injuries among various other reasons have seen his career fizz out. Despite that, for Crystal Palace, the 28-year-old still remains a bright player and more so, he is a reliable midfielder.

An all-action midfielder, he started out as an attacking midfielder and has transformed himself into a more central midfielder of late.

But that still doesn’t stop the Russian star from making late runs or dazzling on the pitch with his powerful efforts from range.

Conclusion

That combined with his movement and creativity make him a very useful player to have in the final third. Moreover, Dzagoev has adapted to a more central role.

This has seen him take on defensive duties at times and do so successfully for CSKA. For Crystal Palace, the 28-year-old’s box-to-box ability alongside Milivojevic would be a dream pairing.
