Crystal Palace signing this 25-goal Championship star would certainly sort out their goalscoring woes next season

Crystal Palace opinion: The Eagles should make a move for Neal Maupay

According to English News outlet Guardian, Crystal Palace are very keen on a move for Neal Maupay. The report further adds that the Eagles are also keen on a move for Ollie Watkins as they look towards adding reinforcements.

But given both Maupay’s form and Crystal Palace’s need for a striker, this position has to be a priority. Roy Hodgson and his Eagles have struggled tremendously this season but finally made it over the line in the dying embers of the season.

However, their struggles over the first half of the season were downright incredible. Palace not only failed to score goals but they also failed to keep clean sheets. That isn’t a great combination for any side in the world and it proved as much with the Eagles flirting with the relegation zone.

In the end, however, the closest the club ever came to that was 16th place before the arrival of Michy Batshauyi in the January window. The Belgian’s move might have been just a short loan spell but it proved to be just the spark of hope they needed.

It changed the club’s fortunes and helped them surge past the relegation zone and slip into their comfortable mid-table zone. That’s exactly why Neal Maupay would be the better option, especially given the way the Brentford striker finished the season.

It’s also one of the many reasons why Brentford finished as high as 11th in the Championship. The 22-year-old French international ended up scoring 25 goals in the Championship, finishing just four behind top scorer Teemu Pukki.

His tally of 25 goals for the season didn’t even come close to being matched by any Brentford star or even Crystal Palace for that matter.

The closest a Palace star did come was 12 goals, with penalty specialist Luka Milivojevic leading the top scorer’s list for the Eagles. The closest a striker came was the 10 goals from Wilfried Zaha and the 5 goals that Michy Batshauyi did net.

It’s a miserable total for any side in the Premier League and one that Palace should really look towards changing.

Conclusion

Crystal Palace needs someone like Neal Maupay in their ranks if the Eagles ever want to succeed and start moving forward. The 22-year-old has had a fantastic season for Brentford and it’s no surprise that a few sides are interested in a move.
