Why Alfredo Morelos would be a brilliant signing for Crystal Palace
According to a report from Football Scotland, Crystal Palace are interested in Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos.
Alfredo Morelos, 23, who scored 26 times last season, has been heavily linked with moves to the Premier League in the past and has previously made it known that he wants to play in England. Given his goalscoring record in Glasgow, it is no surprise to see clubs circling around the Colombian.
Crystal Palace are one of the clubs believed to be interested in Morelos, who is valued around £20m by Rangers.
The Eagles had an underwhelming 2018/19 Premier League campaign, with Roy Hodgson’s men finishing 12th in the table. One of the biggest problems of the south Londoners were their struggles in front of goal.
The likes of Christian Benteke, Jordan Ayew and Connor Wickham proved last season they cannot be relied upon for regular supply of goals.
Nevertheless, Crystal Palace have turned Ayew’s loan deal permanent as Hodgson wishes to give the Ghanaian another chance to revive his career. But Hodgson has lost loan striker Michy Batshuayi, who has returned to parent club, Chelsea.
Thus, it isn’t a surprise the veteran English tactician is in the market for a striker this summer.
Is Alfredo Morelos the right fit at Selhurst Park? Of course, he is but the 23-year-old would come with baggage. He did score an impressive 30 goals across all competitions for the Gers in his second season at the Ibrox but was also sent off no less than five times over the course of the campaign.
Hodgson could be the right manager to channelise Morelos’ temper and motivate him in a positive way. If the Palace boss succeeds in doing so, the south Londoners could have a gem of a striker in their ranks.
Morelos is young and a maverick talent, someone who likes to play on the shoulders of defenders. He can be an unforgiving presence inside the opposition penalty area as he is still a lethal finisher and knows what it takes to find the back of the net.
The Colombian international run with the ball without losing possession and can cause a lot of problems for the opposing defenders in the final third. He would introduce a new dimension to the Palace attack due to his agility, mobility and the ability to finish off a chance in one blink of an eye.

All in all, Morelos could form a dangerous partnership with the likes of Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend up top next season.
Thus, it would be wise for the Eagles to meet Rangers’ valuation for Morelos, who does fit the bill at Selhurst Park and could help Hodgson’s side achieve a top-half finish next year.
