Why Crystal Palace should’ve signed Fabio Borini
Crystal Palace haven’t gotten off to the best of starts after drawing at home to Everton and losing to newly-promoted Sheffield United. They now have a difficult fixture away at Manchester United and it already looks like it’s going to be a very long season for the Eagles.
One of the reasons for this is their struggle for goals. They’ve been a very solid defensive unit over the years, especially since Roy Hodgson took over with their rigid 4-4-2 formation, which denies the opposition to find much space in between the lines. They then look to hit on the counter or try and nick a goal from set-pieces.
They’ve already weakened an area in right-back with the departure of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and could’ve lost Wilfried Zaha as he was linked with a move to Everton which failed. Palace have a very poor record in the Premier League as he’s their talisman and they have no other real goal scorer.
They couldn’t hold onto Michy Bastshuayi, who was on loan while being linked with Fabio Borini of AC Milan. They should’ve signed him as Christian Benteke has clearly not worked out.
Zaha should be playing closer to the goal, having scored 10 last season and even chipping in with assists.
Borini could have taken up Zaha’s position as the ultimate team player and utility-man. He has a lot of Premier League experience as well with 116 appearances for the likes of Liverpool and Sunderland.
Borini is now 28 and would also add some much-needed experience to this side and Palace are most definitely battling for survival this season.

With the promoted teams making a fantastic start – and no clarity over what Wilfried Zaha’s going through – it is important for Palace to start getting some points and build on that momentum otherwise things could go south very soon. Hence, Palace will regret missing out on Borini.
