Crystal Palace Opinion: Eagles in for James McCarthy – Good Move?

According to a report in Daily Mail, Crystal Palace have made an £8m bid to sign Everton midfielder James McCarthy during this transfer window. However, the Toffees are holding out for something around £10m.

The 28-year-old has one year left on his contract at Goodison Park. He has been a long-term target for the Eagles, despite succumbing to a double leg fracture in January 2018. (h/t Daily Mail)

The Republic of Ireland international has been fully fit since October last year (h/t Daily Mail) but was restricted to just one appearance under Marco Silva last season.

On the other hand, Palace manager Roy Hodgson believes that McCarthy will rediscover his old form at Selhurst Park and help his team big time (h/t Daily Mail). Here’s why the Eagles should meet Everton’s fee requirement to sign the midfielder:

McCarthy’s dynamism could be key in midfield

Predominantly a central midfielder (or the box-to-box role, as we say), James McCarthy can play as an attacking midfielder or as a defensive midfielder if required by the team.

Despite the long-term injury hindering his progress in the last 12-15 months, the 28-year-old remains a quality player with the ability to make the difference in central midfields of football teams.

In terms of his attributes, McCarthy is a good passer of the ball and can pick out key passes. He is physically strong, can take shots from a distance and is, overall, a dynamic presence in the midfield.

If Crystal Palace are looking to sign him to reignite his career, it is a move that could turn out to be good for Hodgson’s men with the new season around the corner.

Conclusion

All in all, we can conclude by saying that Palace must pay what is required to sign James McCarthy during this transfer window.
