Crystal Palace raiding Liverpool to sign this 28-year-old beast would help them replace Wan-Bisakka

Crystal Palace Opinion: Why signing Nathaniel Clyne would be a good move

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Liverpool’s Nathaniel Clyne has been linked with a move to Crystal Palace. Clyne spent the second half of last season on loan at Bournemouth after being drifted out of the Liverpool first-team after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s exploits in the last two seasons.

Alexander-Arnold has made himself into one of the best attacking full-backs, not just in the Premier League but in Europe. Jurgen Klopp has also used Joe Gomez in defensive setups, which has seen Clyne get frozen out of the first-team.

Clyne’s exploits at Southampton earned him a move to Liverpool. While one potentially world-class footballer has replaced him, another one has just left for Manchester United – Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace.

Wan-Bissaka was outstanding last year for Palace and is considered one of the best defensive full-backs in the Premier League and Europe.

His ability to completely nullify left-wingers is quite simply incredible and Palace will be worse for his loss. They did receive a hefty sum from his sale and should definitely be using that money to strengthen other areas of weakness in squad.

Clyne is a very capable full-back. He’s comfortable defensively but is also a very good offensive threat. It was his attacking potential that got him the move to Liverpool and he should have no trouble linking up with Andros Townsend on that wing.

Roy Hodgson has stabilized the side from Selhurst in the last two seasons. Palace are usually poised for a relegation battle but they’ve not had much to be worried about since Hodgson took over and will be hoping that they can make the step up to maybe finishing in the top half of the table this season.

Clyne will also be hoping that he can reignite his own career. Clyne is still only 28 and has quite a few years left in the tank to play Premier League football.

If Palace get this deal over the line, they can move on to more urgent targets like a centre-forward.

Conclusion

With only a few more weeks left in the summer transfer window, it is imperative that Palace get their transfer business done as soon as possible. They should have found a replacement for Wan-Bissaka by now, having sold him almost a month back.
