Crystal Palace Can Target These Two Players As Replacements For Yohan Cabaye

Crystal Palace midfielder Yohan Cabaye is in the final year of his contract, meaning he is free to speak to interested parties once the January window rolls around. It remains to be seen if the Eagles offer him a new contract but if they don’t, the former Paris Saint-Germain man could leave the club pretty soon. Considering the dire situation at Selhurst Park, it would be in their best interests to ensure a player like Cabaye stays beyond the transfer window. However, the club will have to get reinforcements if he were to exit.

The Eagles started off on a rather dismal note and occupied the bottom slot in the league table for a good majority of the season. Their slew of below-par performances saw Frank De Boer get sacked and now with Roy Hodgson at the helm of things, they do look stronger.

Currently occupying the 14th spot, Palace are out of relegation danger for now, but if they are to continue their upward trajectory, they cannot afford to lose a player like Cabaye. Hence, if he were to leave, here are two alternatives Palace can consider targeting.

Guessouma Fofana – Amiens

Fofana is a strong central midfielder and can prove to be a solid replacement for Cabaye. Much of Palace’s good fortune this season can be credited to the partnership forged by Cabaye and Luka Milivojevic. Considering his skills, Fofana seems like he could fit right in. His biggest strength lies in his ability to win back the ball with utmost ease, meaning he can dominate a midfield to produce results.

Guessouma Fofana

He has been a crucial part of Amiens and even helped them seal promotion to top-flight football. Fofana may not have tested his mettle in the Ligue 1 but given the need at Palace, he could prove to be a solid alternative to fill the void left by Cabaye.

Moreover, he has a year left on his contract which means Palace could snap him up at a comparatively nominal rate if they act fast enough.

James Milner – Liverpool

Milner has been struggling for playing time at Anfield and could be looking to exit the club in January. He has put up impressive displays whenever he has been on the field but it seems like he is unable to cement a spot for himself in Jurgen Klopp’s first-team. More often than not, Milner was plucked out of his comfort zone – the central midfield area, to be deployed as a left-back during Alberto Moreno’s struggles last season.

However, the player has recovered from injury and poor form, and Klopp also has the services of Andy Robertson now, meaning regular game time has become harder for Milner to come by. At 31 years of age, he boasts of a lot of experience and could prove to be vital for Palace in Cabaye’s absence.
