Crystal Palace badly need a talisman up front and this struggling Everton star is probably the one for them

Why Crystal Palace should sign Cenk Tosun from Everton

According to a report in Football.London, Crystal Palace are odds on favourites to sign Everton striker Cenk Tosun. The suggestions are that the Turkish forward’s next destination would be Selhurst Park.

Tosun has fallen out of favour at Everton, as he struggles for game time under Marco Silva. As per the report, Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi could join the Toffees this month, further downgrading any chance of the former to play regular football at Goodison Park.

Palace seem to be in the market for a striker this month after failing to get Dominic Solanke. They were linked with Tosun even before the striker joined Everton last year.

Here’s why they should sign the Turkish international this month and improve their forward line:

Roy Hodgson

Palace need someone who can lead the line

It has pretty clear for some time now that Crystal Palace need a striker if they are to score more goals and pull away from the relegation fight. So far this season, their top-scorer is midfielder Luka Milivojevic – with six goals, chiefly because he takes penalties.

The others in that list are Andros Townsend with four and Wilfried Zaha with three league goals. In total, the Eagles have only managed to net 23 goals in 23 appearances, which is not good for a team who are aiming to stay in the Premier League.

Roy Hodgson has strikers Christian Benteke, Jordan Ayew and Alex Sorloth as options, but, it is fair to say none of the three is good enough to lead the line and score goals on a consistent basis.

Hence, signing a new striker makes sense. Even though Cenk Tosun couldn’t make the cut at Everton in terms of goals scored, he could be an ideal addition to this Palace squad.

Cenk Tosun

The Turkish international possesses all the attributes to lead the line at Selhurst Park and link up with Townsend and Zaha. If his pre-Everton record is taken into account, the 27-year-old netted 64 goals in 142 appearances for Besiktas, which is decent, to say the least.

Tosun is a real poacher in the box, partly because of the dangerous movements he makes to lose the defender marking. He can make those runs in the channel on the counter, hold the ball up and allow others to join the attack. All in all, the striker would be a perfect signing for Palace and the club should make it happen by the end of this month.
