Juventus talisman Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the physically fittest football players and his medical at Turin in the summer of 2018 revealed that he has the physical capacity of a 20-year-old.
The 34-year-old is known for being a hard trainer and his Instagram account is proof of his dedicated training. He maintains a highly disciplined fitness regime and is still at the top in terms of both the game and his physique.
Additionally, he is also one of the fastest players on the planet. Out of 734 players in the 2018 World Cup, Ronaldo emerged the fastest in terms of raw pace. He reached a top speed of 34km/hr against Spain in Portugal’s opener – a truly ridiculous stat.
As we know, he frequently does the sprinting drills and two weeks back, he was in Lisbon with Francis Obikwelu, a Nigerian-born Portuguese sprinter.
Obikwelu holds the European 100m record, which he attained in the Athens Olympics that led to him bagging a silver medal in the track event. At 9.86s, he fell just one-hundredth of a second behind American speedster Justin Gatlin.
With Obikwelu, Ronaldo refined his short runs to make it even more effective on the pitch and that is seen in all of his games. Last summer, after a long training session, the sprinter revealed Ronaldo’s prowess and said:
“With the physique and his head, he can remain at a high level up to the age of 40”.
The video below shows how Ronaldo trained with the Portuguese sprinter last summer.
It is clear how the Portugal international has kept up with the pace despite ageing. With the goal against Roma in Coppa Italia last night, Ronaldo created another record, scoring in 15 different competitions in his entire career – a feat achieved by very few.
The 5-time Ballon d’Or winner will be hoping to get his hands on the Champions League trophy with Juventus, who have not achieved success in Europe for quite a long time.
