Selling like hot cakes? Selling like Cristiano Ronaldo shirts more like!
According to Spanish daily Marca, The Portuguese hitman’s shirt sales have been as promising as the no 7 is on the pitch these days. When it comes to shirt sales, Cristiano Ronaldo is the undisputed leader among his teammates.
Sales of Ronaldo shirts are going through the roof right now. No shirt is selling faster among Real Madrid fans than that of the Portuguese superstar’s. The rapid increase in sales started back in October when he spoke of his ‘sadness’ and then went on to put on some incredible displays in the number seven shirt – something he has continually done for Los Blancos.
His frightening form and the image he now portrays have had a hugely positive effect on shirt sales. In fact, Real Madrid and Adidas cannot recall a boom like it in this aspect. You would have to go back to the times when Beckham and Zidane adorned the famous white shirt to even find a similar sales index. However, despite no official sales index, they suspect he is outselling even his Madrid predecessors from the Galactico era.
There are reports that his shirts are having to be replaced daily in the club’s official Adidas store on Padre Damian (which is located inside the stadium) and even when fans buy a top without a name and number on the back, the most popular combo requested by the printing team is Ronaldo, 7.
A study by Sporting Intelligence has shown that when it comes to football club shirt sales, Real Madrid and Manchester United are the clubs which sell the most worldwide.
With rumours linking Ronaldo with a move back to Manchester United, the big question lies whether Madrid would want to lose their Super star as well as the profits from his shirt sale at the same time?
