Rangers put their costly Old Firm derby loss behind them with a comfortable 3-0 win over Hearts at the Ibrox. Jermain Defoe, Conor Goldson and Scott Arfield were the scorers for the home side, who seemed at ease on the night.
Around the 16th minute, Arfield’s adroit flick put James Tavernier through on goal, but the full-back’s attempt was blocked by the Hearts keeper. However, Defoe was there to put the ball into the back of the net.
Four minutes later, Tavernier’s curling free-kick found Goldson unmarked behind a static central defence of the home team. The former Brighton man tucked his chance away to put the home side in the driver’s seat.
Any doubts regarding the outcome of the game were put to rest three minutes into the second half. A Tavernier low-cross found Defoe at the near post. The striker’s attempt was saved by the Hearts keeper but Arfield was present to tuck the ball home.
Steven Gerrard’s men had a couple of other chances to score but the game was well and truly done once that third goal went in.
