Could Xabi Return To Liverpool? Contract Negotiations With Madrid Continue To Falter

Xabi Alonso has always been a fan favorite and keeps a special place at the hearts of the Anfield faithful. Could the former Champions league winning man make an emotional return to the club ?

It has been revealed that the Real Madrid star has become unhappy in Spain and could make a shock move back to Liverpool after his contract negotiations with Madrid has still not reached to a conclusion ringing the inevitable rumor bells to make a trip back to Anfield. With his future in doubt at Spain and also with the situation with Mourinho and Perez, Xabi could seek a way back to England to join Gerrard and co.

In the 5 seasons at Liverpool the Spaniard made 121 appearances and was part of the glorious Champions league winning side, as he along with Gerrard were instrumental for Liverpool’s success. The Reds have not yet found a perfect replacement or a midfielder to partner with Gerrard since his departure and fans would ecstatic to see the partnership again at Liverpool.

Reports from Daily Mail indicate that a Liverpool return is the most likely scenario for the veteran midfielder in the coming transfer windows. Alonso, 31, would not be getting a bumper deal out of this move and may have to take a pay cut to join the Reds and having been part of a successful Real Madrid side and it would be a major surprise if he did return to England.

It is all in the hands of the Reds boss Brendan Rodgers. It’s sure that he wants to add quality to Liverpool in January but whether he wants players in midfield or not is the big question.
