(French international Paul Pogba is reported to have become frustrated with his manager not being allowed license to roam)

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba could be set for a shock exit from Old Trafford following a fall out with manager Jose Mourinho with multiple reports claiming Manchester United’s record signing is becoming disgruntled with life under Mourinho.

The French international has had his creative spark utterly diminished this side of 2018 asked to take a more defensive role than he is used to, most games the boundless energy he possesses is limited to simply defensive work recycling the play to the attackers and sitting deep with fellow midfielder Nemanja Matic.

This is clearly not what the former Juventus star expected in his second spell at Manchester United and is clearly out of his depth with this defensive role, his horror show against Newcastle in which the French International completed only a single tackle and had a 66% pass accuracy is case and point into Pogba’s ineptness in this role in centre-defensive midfield.

But it is clear that Mourinho does not trust Pogba currently in this role either not allowing the 6ft 3 midfield colossus to finish the 3 three Premier league games, when asked about his 66 minute substitution against Newcastle the Portuguese manager stated  “There was no problem with Pogba,” he continued to explain his reasoning for the 66 minute substitution stating “I wanted a better way to come out against a compact team by bringing on Michael Carrick. He makes everything simple.

Whether there is a falling out between Pogba and Jose is questionable with the manager laughing off comments of a rift between the two, but it is clear that the manager is finding it hard to place him within the United lineup.

In Mourinho’s preferred formation the former Chelsea manager prefers Lingard in the attacking midfield slot, but maybe Pogba would be the preferred candidate further forward.

Seriously the more you see him in that deep role the more his incapability is evident. Pogba is a box to box midfielder perfect for a midfield three case and point his performances at Juventus under Antonio Conte. Vidal and Pirlo allowed Pogba more freedom as the more attacking midfield member to showcase his skills, athleticism running past defenders and just generally causing havoc prompting Ed Woodward to splash the cash on their former youth player who left Old Trafford for free.

(Jose Mourinho has got some stunning performances out of the 24-year-old, yet this current role may leave some United fans left wondering about Pogba’s United Future)

It is not some pipe dream for Mourinho to change his tactics and ditch Lingard for Pogba in that more attacking role, Pogba towers above most of his opponents with the pace and strength to bully other players and decimate defences with his passing ability perfect for some of United’s deadly counter-attacks.

When you watch Paul Pogba you should see him shining in both boxes, running up and down with the energy of a dynamo battery and making a mockery of fellow professionals. Instead, at least in 2018, his performances have been limited to being essentially another Matic?!

When the Red Devils have possession in the final third and are looking to cross the ball Pogba should be the midfielder arriving into the box late on to cause problems like Gerrard, Lampard and Yaya Toure did in their heyday and quite some time afterwards, not stuck next to Matic wondering why he chose to come back to United rather than go to one of his other potential suitors and believe me there where no shortages of them.

(United’s most expensive player looks on from the bench left pondering about his United future)

With Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG and a whole host of other super clubs hoping to seal a deal for the then 23-year-old the Frenchman’s stock was incredibly high, but yet Pogba and his agent Mino Raiola for that matter chose Manchester United; but if Mourinho continues to strangle Pogba for and deny him the freedom he wants it may be a choice for owner Ed Woodward between Pogba or Mourinho.

When you think of Paul Pogba you think of incredible athleticism paired with outrageous skills and possibly dodgy haircuts. Instead, we are seeing a talented young man being essentially denied his potential, I have seen Pogba conjure some fantastic performances in a United shirt this season and last; against Everton, he bossed the United Midfield and made me wish my team had a player like Pogba.

His recent performances are a far cry from being the midfield “general” we all thought he would be this season, for his sake, I hope Mourinho changes his tactics surrounding Pogba or the Frenchman could depart Old Trafford once again!
