Could Arsenal Lose Their Last Realistic Midfield Target?

Share

According to the latest reports Arsenal‘s long term and realistic target Victor Wanyama could be on his way to the Premier League but with Southampton as a likely destination. The Celtic midfielder who was determined to leave his club this summer, may have finally got  his wish come true as Celtic boss Neil Lennon has accepted that the Kenyan midfield enforcer would definitely part ways with the club.

Arsenal were not the only club who are after the midfielder, the likes of Southampton, Liverpool, Everton and Cardiff were amongst the interested parties.

However, according to the Espn, Lennon has confirmed that Celtic have accepted a bid from Southampton, he said:

“What we have done is accepted a bid from Southampton, who are a very good club, a very progressive club. Personally, I think it would be a very good move for Victor in terms of his career going forward but there seems to be other bodies who want to block the deal.

“The ball is firmly in the court of Victor’s representatives. You don’t know what’s around the corner. I would imagine there would be other interested parties but we’ve had no confirmation from any other clubs yet.”

However, it appears that the transfer may still be on the hinges as the player does not consider the Saints as a viable option and is keen to look for greener pastures. Liverpool, who have made some remarkable progress in the summer transfer window till now, had shown an initial interest in the player, but had not followed it up with an offer. So if the Gunners swoop in and beat the Saints offer, we could easily see Wanyama at the Emirates next season.

Arsenal need to strengthen their midfield this season and that includes a holding midfielder who would operate from the back, being the first man to initiate the attack. Wanyama fits the bill perfectly and he has already proved his worth at Celtic prompting other clubs to make a move for him.

Wanyama has been very impressive with Celtic throughout and in 61 games for the club he has scored 10 times. This is impressive when we take into account that at times he has also been deployed as a centre back. As it looks till now, Wanyama is set to join a Premier League club, whichever it maybe and next season onwards he would be a player to watch out for.
