Mousa Dembele vs Geoffrey Kondogbia Stats – Should Tottenham Hotspur Go For The Midfielder?

Tottenham are not in the best of situations right now. They are at 6th spot with 25 points and their chances of a title challenge seem virtually over. Given the way they have performed this season so far, Spurs might even have to forego a top-four finish if they do not bring in reinforcements come January. It does seem unfair to blame them for their poor performances since that has largely been due to injuries. However, the fact remains that they could get into greater trouble. That makes signing new players the need of the hour in January.

Of late, Tottenham have been linked with Geoffrey Kondogbia of Valencia. The player is actually serving a loan spell with the Spanish club and is originally a part of Inter Milan. He has been in splendid form for Valencia ever since he arrived at the club and has played a key role in their success this season. In fact, Kondogbia was quite influential at Inter as well and made it to Luciano Spalletti’s starting XI on a regular basis only to be shipped out to Spain. Now, however, a move to the Premier League could be on the cards.

The midfield is one area in particular that has been massively depleted for Spurs. Their lack of dynamism and power in the middle of the park has truly made things worse for Tottenham. Without quality players to link the defence with the attack, their overall displays have been very poor. Mousa Dembele has failed to contribute much due to his slew of injuries and Mauricio Pochettino could be eyeing Kondogbia as a direct replacement. Will the 24-year-old prove to be an upgrade though? Let’s take a look.

Mousa Dembele vs Geoffrey Kondogbia

In 13 appearances for Spurs this season, Dembele has spent 735 minutes on the field but he has not contributed a single goal or assist. He has picked up one yellow card and averages 1.4 tackles and interceptions each, per game. He does have a pass success-rate of 90.3%.

Geoffrey Kondogbia

Kondogbia, on the other hand, has appeared 12 times for the La Liga club and has spent 1000 minutes on the field. He has scored 3 goals and 1 assist while picking up 2 yellow cards and a red card. He makes an average of 2.8 tackles and 1.6 interceptions per game while boasts of a pass success-rate of 87.3%. As far aerial strength goes, he wins 1.5 battles on an average and he has picked up a Man of The Match award as well.

Verdict

It does seem like Kondogbia will prove to be a massive upgrade and considering the situation, Spurs could truly use a player like him.
