Who Is This 23-year Old Tottenham Goal Machine? Everything You Want To Know About The Lad

Share

Heung-Min Son, a South Korean footballer who was playing his game in the Bundesliga for the factory club aka Leverkusen, has recently left the chance of playing Champions League football and joined up with North London club, Tottenham for a fee around the 20 million mark. The Asian did not take much time to adapt to the European game and settled quite easily at B04, so if he follows suit, Spurs have a real gem in their squad along with young Harry Kane.

Heung-Min Son

Son started out at Seoul as he was an academy product of FC Seoul. The same club from which ex-Spurs player Lee Young-Pyo was a graduate of. Son came to Europe as a very young kid compared to other Asian footballers, as he joined the Bundesliga’s un-official far eastern football program. He quit his schooling at the age of 16 and found himself playing football in Hamburg, Germany. He earned a contract quite soon into the program and created history as he scored against Koln, the youngest ever player in Hamburg history. This was a good 5 seasons ago. He scored 3 goals that season as he put 2 past Hannover.

Summer of 2011, Son showed his potential off like it was nobodies business. In 9 preseason games, he scored 18 times. Yes, 18 times! But an injury kept him out of the start of the season yet he came back and scored in the first game he played, but ended with just 5 goals that year. For a teenager, I guess you could say it was a fruitful campaign.

Heung-Min Son

When he turned 20, he got a regular place in the Hamburg side after the sales of Petric and Guerrero. Thorsten Fink was glad to have Son amongst his ranks.

Style of Play, Strengths and Weakness:

Versatile in nature, the Korean can play up front and on the flanks. “I don’t care where I play, the main thing is I am in the game. I can play, right left and forward even behind. I do what the coach says. I don’t have a favourite position. I’ll be on full throttle wherever on the pitch”

That paragraph aptly sums up his gameplay. He is quite tall about 6 feet and as has the eye for goal. His presence in the box though needs to be improved as it affects his calm and composed nature. Usually, he likes to be on the ball and plays a bit deep but can play excellently as the lone target man also! For an Asian, he is blessed with incredible skill with his feet, quick and loves to dribble. Something that links him to a Brazilian-born player, but that’s the mistake you would do to think so. Most of the 44 goals he scored for B04 was due to his energy and speed. His acceleration makes it difficult to defend and the way he starts counter attacks makes many players envious. He can shoot with both left and right so you would not want to give him any sort of space. He has a pass completion rate of 75% on average, which is adequate for an attacking player.

Heung-Min Son

Scoring 44 goals in his 100 plus appearances for B04 and the fact that he fits into the style of Pochettino, Son is got the perfect platform to be a hit in England. Moreover, coming from an Asian family of footballers, with his dad also representing the country as a coach, Son can take the family name to higher levels in footballing history.
