While Chelsea are looking to bounce back from their dismal season last year, the new manager Antonio Conte is also keen to build a pipeline of young talented players for the future.
Gabriel Barbosa was one such chase that Chelsea were after. One of the hottest prospects from Brazil nicknamed Gabigol, 19 years old was sought by Chelsea to be a future star at the club. However according to Lance!, Juventus have got the jump on Chelsea for the player’s signature. The report said that the Italian champions have agreed a fee with Santos for the player in the range of £16.7 million.
Even though the fee is agreed, there are major financial work remaining as the player’s economic rights are divided between Santos, his family and sports investment group Doyen. The player’s agent also confirmed that any deal(including Juventus’) will be finalized only after Rio Olympic. So Chelsea may still have a chance to oust Juventus but will have to act quickly.
