Rangers Make Easy Work Of Hamilton Academical

The Pedro Caixinha era kicked off with a dream start, as Rangers thrashed bottom side Hamilton Academical 4-0 at the Ibrox Stadium on Saturday in the Scottish Premiership.

Goals from Emerson Hyndman and Clint Hill in the first half,  and Martyn Waghorn and Lee Wallace in the second made it a comfortable first day at the office for Caixinha.

Player Ratings

Wes Foderingham – 7/10

Was a spectator for most parts of the game. Did his job well when called upon. The stop from Ali Crawford’s acrobatic effort stood out.

James Tavernier – 8/10

Returned to his right-back position and was impressive as always. Ran up and down all the time and sent in some lovely crosses. His beautifully placed low ball set up Hyndman for the opener.

Danny Wilson – 6.5/10

Did not have a lot to do at the back with the Accies hardly threatening in attack. However, he was alert in ensuring his team protected the clean sheet.

Clint Hill – 7/10

Defended well and scored his third goal in three games, hitting home a Jon Toral delivery in the first half. Give him a new contract already!

Lee Wallace – 8/10

The skipper put in a solid defensive showing and was brilliant going forward as well, sending in some delightful balls into the box. Scored the fourth for the Gers.

Jon Toral – 8/10

Returned to the line-up after missing out against Celtic last week. Split open the Accies defence with some fine passes. Grabbed an assist for Hill’s goal with an excellent free-kick.

Jason Holt – 6/10

Battled well in the middle of the park. Broke up plays on several occasions. Improved showing from the Scottish youth international.

Emerson Hyndman – 7.5/10

The Bournemouth loanee is enjoying a fine run of form. Scored with a tidy finish to open the scoring for Rangers. Confident display.

Kenny Miller – 6.5/10

The 37-year old put in an energetic display, posed a threat to the Accies defence. Switched positions with the front three well.

Barry McKay – 7/10

Asked questions of the Hamilton backline with his directness. Pressed well off the ball, but the end product was found lacking at times.

Martyn Waghorn – 8/10

Almost opened the scoring in the first period, before winning a penalty and converting it in the second half. Gave a brilliant back-heel assist for Wallace’s goal.

Substitutes

Joe Garner – 6/10

Replaced McKay in the 66th minute. Linked up well, but did nothing exceptional.

Joe Dodoo – 6/10

Came on for Waghorn with fifteen minutes left on the clock. Did nothing noteworthy.

Harry Forrester – N/A

Replaced Miller in the 81st minute. There wasn’t enough time to make an impact.
