7 Goals, 12 Assists And 92 Chances Created- Why Tottenham’s Midfield Maestro Should Forget Moving To Barcelona

Christian Eriksen Must Snub Barcelona Move And Stay With Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur have a nervous summer ahead of them at the end of the season. Though they are sure to qualify for the Champions League, the lack of any kind of silverware under Mauricio Pochettino might see a few star players exit the club at the end of the season. The likes of Kyle Walker, Toby Alderweireld, Danny Rose, Hugo Lloris, Eric Dier and Dele Alli have all been linked with an exit and one player that is now wanted at the Camp Nou is Christian Eriksen.

With 7 goals and 12 assists in the Premier League this season, Eriksen is one of the most productive playmakers in the top flight of English football and is growing in confidence game after game. He has created a total of 92 chances in the league this season and the number is easily above many of the Premier League superstars. Eriksen is arguably the best playmaker in the English league right now. He has been superb in the last couple of months for the Spurs, who have shown great consistency and this has seen Barcelona target a move for him in the summer.

The 25-year old Danish international has already played 129 league games since joining Spurs back in 2013 from Ajax and is contracted to the club until 2020. He has been a mainstay under Pochettino and has been influential in the two seasons in which Tottenham have challenged for the title.

However, the Catalan giants are in desperate need for some attackers, with the likes of Arda Turan, Rafinha, and Dennis Suarez failing to impress the Camp Nou faithful. Barca need a backup for the front three of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Neymar Jr, and need a versatile player who can also shift into a deep midfield role if needed.

Eriksen certainly seems like a perfect fit and the Spurs fans are now worried that the pull of playing alongside Messi and company might be enough to lure the Dane out of the club this summer. But it is easy to see that it is better for Eriksen to reject this offer.

Though playing with the best in the business will help him improve as a player, he will hardly be the first choice at Barcelona and his role will be reduced to just a ‘bits and pieces’ job in the La Liga. He is currently one of the most important players at White Hart Lane and the squad has been built around him and his attacking partners. It would be foolish for Eriksen to leave something as exciting as the journey at the White Hart Lane promises, just to play a supporting role at the Camp Nou.

Pochettino’s side have taken more points than any other team in 2016 and they have also been consistent since the turn of the year. They are certainly on the rise and a couple of quality stars can surely make them a force to reckon with in Europe. It is better for Eriksen to be a part of this revolution and if it does not work according to plan, he can spend his prime as a player in clubs like Barcelona. But this summer is just nor the right time for the Spurs man to swap his allegiances.
