Chelsea’s on-loan 19-year-old prodigy looks all set to play for the Premier League biggies – opinion

Mason Mount could very well be tracked by the Premier League biggies soon

Derby County have made a reasonable start to the season, winning five of the 10 games played and find themselves at ninth position in the table, just four points off the top. New manager Frank Lampard is slowly but surely getting his message into the squad, which is reaping rewards.

The Rams went to Old Trafford for the Carabao Cup third round clash with Manchester United and beat them on penalties. They dominated the game at the Theatre of Dreams that raised many eyebrows.

One player who has really caught the eye of many is Mason Mount. The 19-year-old has impressed one and all with his tremendous performance level in the league thus far.

The Englishman has played equal number of games both as an attacking midfielder and as a No.8 this season. Dipping into some of the stats from this campaign, they are eye-catching, to say the least.

Mason Mount

Mount produces a key pass at a rate of 2.3 per game, which proves his eye for incisive through balls. He has already scored three goals and provided one assist in 10 appearances, which is a good return for a midfielder. Having created 23 chances with his passing, the 19-year-old is a good creative player in the middle of the park.

The teenager is an imperious set-piece taker and is very adept in scoring long-range efforts, be it from dead-ball situations or open play. He also shows his all-around ability by contributing to the team’s defence.

Verdict

According to the Sun, England manager Gareth Southgate mentioned that the youngster would thrive under pressure after he was tipped to play for England’s senior squad soon. And from the evidence of his performances so far, Mount has proved he is ready to take up the next step in his career and aim for big things.
